Born into an industrialist family in Punjab, India, Sanjeev was educated in the UK, graduating with an MA in Economics and Management from the University of Cambridge. He founded LIBERTY House Group in 1992 while still an undergraduate, rapidly expanding as a global commodities trader. In 2015, he began his industrial journey by purchasing and restarting his first steel mill in the UK, pioneering the Green Steel concept that integrates steel recycling with renewable power.

Sanjeev now leads LIBERTY Steel Group, one of the world’s largest steel producers, with a capacity of approximately 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquid steel and 20 mtpa of steel products. His investment strategy emphasises sustainability and low-carbon steel production, utilising steel recycling, renewable energy, and innovative technologies like hydrogen.

In 2019, he announced the Group’s ambition to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030, the most ambitious target set by a major steel producer. In 2022, LIBERTY Steel initiated the first project in Europe to transition from Blast Furnace technology to low-carbon hybrid electric arc furnaces.

Sanjeev and Nicola reside in Dubai with their three children.
